About Me

Swati Shahane

I’m Swati Shahane—with 10+ years of experience in mental health research and counselling, a life skills facilitator, training consultant, and a mother learning every day alongside my child. My journey into mental health began in hospitals and classrooms, but truly deepened through listening—deeply and repeatedly—to people’s stories, struggles, and strengths.

My professional path has taken me from clinical settings to large-scale public mental health initiatives. At NIMHANS, I worked on state-level life skills and wellness programs—designing curriculum, training facilitators, conducting workshops across Karnataka, supervising implementation, and contributing to research that has informed policy and practice.

I am a co-author of a Life Skills Manual and Facilitator Guide and have supported the contextual adaptation of UNICEF’s I Support My Friends. I also work as a consultant and facilitator with HelpAge India, empowering elders through mental health and wellbeing programs.

I have facilitated over a hundred life skills trainings for students, parents, teachers, healthcare professionals, and corporate teams. My academic work in psychology, youth mental health, mindfulness, life skills, and wellbeing has been published in national and international journals.

Lokamom was born from both professional insight and personal need—a compassionate, evidence-based space where women and mothers feel seen, supported, and allowed to grow imperfectly and humanly.

A mental health practitioner with nearly 10+ years of experience, she believes emotional wellbeing grows when people feel heard, understood, and supported—without judgment.

Alongside my practice as a counsellor, I am currently pursuing my PhD with an interest in developing interventions that strengthen resilience among adolescents and youth. This allows me to continually blend evidence with empathy, and theory with real-world practice.

I offer meaningful mental health support and contribute to conversations that normalise struggles through counselling, training, and research by creating safe, inclusive, and empowering spaces where individuals can thrive.
